Docutrix vs NotebookLM for teams

Short verdict: NotebookLM is an excellent free research notebook for one person or a small group working through a set of sources. Docutrix is built for an organisation's whole document library: one shared index that stays in sync with SharePoint and Google Drive, admin controls over who can query what, and cited answers for everyone on the team.

Google announced on 16 July 2026 that it is renaming NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. We use both names here because many people still search for NotebookLM.

How NotebookLM answers from documents

You create a notebook, add sources, and ask questions. Google says answers come with clear in-line citations for accuracy, transparency and trust. It accepts a wide range of source types, from PDFs and Google Docs to web pages, YouTube videos and audio, and Google describes people using it to turn notes into audio and video summaries.

Each notebook is its own set of sources. The free tier allows 50 sources per notebook and 50 chats a day, and notebooks can be kept private, shared with individuals or made public.

How Docutrix differs for teams

Docutrix treats your documents as one shared library rather than a set of separate notebooks. Your team asks questions across everything that's been indexed, and every answer cites the exact document and page. If the answer isn't in your documents, Docutrix says so.

On Business and Enterprise, Docutrix connects to SharePoint and Google Drive, so the index updates when files change, and the Team Admin Panel lets admins restrict document collections to specific users or teams. Four Industry Contexts (Legal, Finance, HR & People, Engineering) help it handle the language of those fields.

Pricing and limits compared

NotebookLM's Standard tier is free; more notebooks, sources and daily chats come with Google AI plans or qualifying Google Workspace editions. For many individuals and students, free is hard to beat.

Docutrix starts at $30 USD per month on Starter (2 users, 100 indexed pages, 1,000 queries). Pro is $100 per month for 10 users and 10,000 pages. Business, at $20 per user per month (minimum 5 users), adds the SharePoint and Google Drive integrations and the Team Admin Panel. Every plan has a 30-day free trial with no credit card. See full pricing.

Privacy and control

Google says your data is not used to train the product unless you provide feedback, and that if you do share feedback it may review the full context of that interaction. For eligible work and school accounts, uploads, chats and outputs won't be reviewed by humans or used to improve generative AI models.

Docutrix never uses documents, queries or answers to train AI models, on any plan. Each organisation's data is isolated and encrypted, and Enterprise adds data residency, on-premise or dedicated hosting, and a private LLM in your own VPC. See security.

Which one should you choose?

Choose Docutrix if…

  • Your whole team needs to ask questions of one shared document library, not separate notebooks.
  • Your documents live in SharePoint, or across SharePoint and Google Drive.
  • Admins need to control which people can query which documents.
  • You need Enterprise options such as data residency, on-premise hosting or a private LLM.

Docutrix's honest limitations

  • Docutrix has no free plan. It starts at $30 per month after the 30-day trial, while NotebookLM has a free tier.
  • It only answers from documents you upload or connect. It doesn't take web pages, YouTube videos or audio as sources.
  • Uploads are PDF and Word (.docx). Integrations are limited to SharePoint and Google Drive, on Business and Enterprise.
  • It doesn't create audio or video overviews. It answers questions with citations.
