Find the answer in your docs, not a colleague's calendar
Architecture decisions, runbooks, specs, and post-mortems — your engineering knowledge is already written down. Docutrix makes it instantly queryable.
The old way vs. Docutrix
Interrupting a senior engineer to ask how the retry logic works
Ask Docutrix — it finds the answer in the service's runbook with a citation.
Searching across 50 ADRs to find the decision about your messaging queue
Ask 'Which ADR covers the Kafka vs SQS decision?' and get a direct link to the document.
New engineers spending weeks understanding system architecture
Ask questions in plain English — Docutrix answers from your existing specs and docs.
On-call engineers unable to find the right runbook under pressure
Ask 'What is the escalation path for the payments service?' during an incident.
Built for engineering documentation
Engineering Context mode
Understands technical documentation patterns — RFC format, ADR structure, API reference conventions, incident post-mortems, and system design documents. Knows what a 'circuit breaker' or 'idempotency key' means without explanation.
Cross-document search
Ask questions that span multiple documents — runbooks, specs, and ADRs simultaneously. 'What are all the error codes returned by the auth service?' queries all relevant docs at once.
Instant onboarding
New engineers can ask questions about system architecture, coding conventions, and operational processes without waiting for a colleague. The answers are in your existing docs — Docutrix surfaces them.
Incident support
During an incident, engineers can query runbooks, playbooks, and post-mortems for similar past incidents — in seconds, not minutes of digging through wiki pages and shared folders.
Questions engineers ask Docutrix
Each answered with a citation to the exact document and section — ADR, runbook, or spec.
How it works for engineering teams
Upload, ask, verify. No tagging, folder taxonomy or prompt engineering required.
- 1
Upload your technical docs
Add ADRs, runbooks, specs and post-mortems as PDF or Word (.docx) files. Docs that live in a wiki can be exported to PDF first, and Google Docs sync through the Google Drive integration on Business and Enterprise plans. Indexing usually completes within a few minutes.
- 2
Ask in plain English
Select the Engineering context and ask the question you'd otherwise put to a senior engineer: "What are the retry semantics for the payments service?" Docutrix searches runbooks, specs and ADRs together.
- 3
Follow the citation
Every answer cites the document and page it came from, so you can open the runbook or ADR and read the surrounding context before you change anything in production.
Documents engineering teams upload
Point Docutrix at the authoritative docs that already have owners.
- Architecture decision records (ADRs)
- Runbooks, playbooks and on-call escalation guides
- Incident post-mortems
- Technical specifications and system design documents
- API references and error code documentation
- RFCs and design proposals
- Coding conventions and onboarding guides
Getting started in your first week
A simple rollout that gets useful answers in front of the team quickly.
- 1Start your free trial and upload the runbooks and ADRs your team reaches for most, starting with the services on the on-call rotation.
- 2Invite the team from Settings → Team and assign Member or Admin roles.
- 3Have a recent joiner ask their onboarding questions and check that each citation points to the right document.
- 4Add post-mortems so on-call engineers can ask about similar past incidents.
- 5Connect Google Drive or SharePoint on Business or Enterprise so updated specs are re-indexed without a manual upload.
- 6Keep using your wiki for working notes and process pages; point Docutrix at the authoritative documents that already have owners.
Security for internal technical documentation
Architecture and incident documents describe how your systems work. Here's how they are protected.
Your docs never train AI models
Docutrix does not use your documents, queries or answers to train, fine-tune or improve AI models, on any plan. It is a contractual commitment.
Encrypted at rest and in transit
Documents, embeddings and metadata are encrypted at rest with AES-256, and all traffic uses TLS 1.2 or higher.
Restrict sensitive designs
On Business and Enterprise plans, admins limit document collections to specific users or teams, enforced at query time.
Private LLM and on-premise options
Enterprise plans can run the AI inside your own VPC or bring your own model, with on-premise or dedicated hosting and API access.

Frequently asked questions
Does Docutrix integrate with Confluence or our wiki?
No. Docutrix integrates with SharePoint and Google Drive (Business and Enterprise plans) and accepts direct PDF and Word (.docx) uploads. If your docs live in a wiki, export the pages you rely on to PDF and upload them.
Can Docutrix read Markdown or code files?
Direct uploads support PDF and Word (.docx). Google Docs, Sheets and Slides are supported through the Google Drive integration. There is no source-code repository integration: Docutrix answers from your documentation.
How does it help on-call engineers?
During an incident, engineers can ask about runbooks, playbooks and post-mortems for similar past incidents and get a cited answer in seconds, instead of searching folders under pressure.
What does the Engineering Industry Context do?
It is one of four Industry Contexts (Legal, Finance, HR & People and Engineering). It understands technical documentation patterns such as RFCs, ADR structure, API reference conventions, runbooks and incident post-mortems.
Is there an API?
API access is part of the Enterprise plan, alongside white-labelling, a private LLM in your VPC or your own model, and on-premise or dedicated hosting.
Which plan suits an engineering team?
Pro covers 10 users and 10,000 pages, which suits a single team. Business adds unlimited users (5 minimum), 50,000 pages, access controls and SharePoint and Google Drive integrations. Starter, Pro and Business each come with a 30-day free trial.
